The practice of yoga is
amazing. There is Yoga Avalon that is available every day of the week,
and there are all different classes, depending on ability. Yoga is a practice
more than an exercise. Even yoga instructors call themselves yoga
practitioners. It is a mind and body practice where one uses breathing techniques
while getting into a series of postures. Yoga includes strengthening the body
and the mind, and includes meditation and relaxation. With yoga one is never in
competition with anyone else, but rather, one is always practising. One is
practising to still the mind and strengthen the body.
Yoga classes
Most yoga lessons are
an hour-long, although you may find classes that are an hour and a half,
generally including a longer meditation. Yoga generally starts with a short
spiritual prayer and some nostril breathing, then moves on to guided sun
salutations, and then the series of postures, moving from one posture to
another with ease and grace. A yoga teacher guides you through each movement
and each posture, ensuring you do not injure yourself and ensuring that you
practice correctly. If a pose is too hard for you, or too much for you, you are
invited to go into ‘child’s pose’which is a posture in itself, a resting and stretching
pose. Yoga ends with a meditation, which could be five minutes long, and it is
where one lies in corpse pose, eyes closed, breathing quietly and clearing the
mind.
Yoga is a beautiful
practice and everyone benefits from the practice. You can start with a trial
class. Most yoga studios offer morning and evening classes and offer different
kinds of yoga classes. Hatha yoga is the more regular or recognised type of
yoga. If you are in Avalon, you will find yoga Avalon offered by various
yoga studios.
